Teliamura, Aug 31: Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital has been struggling with several shortcomings including shortage of doctors. As a result, the patients visiting the hospital have been suffering in availing the healthcare.
The Community Health Centre was upgraded to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in 2017. But there was no initiative to improve the infrastructure in the hospital. Most of the people in Teliamura were against the decision of shifting the hospital from the old place.
After formation of the BJP-IPFT government in 2018, initiatives were taken to strengthen the hospital with necessary infrastructure. But, the public sufferings remained the same till date following some issues including the shortage of doctors.
The role of Sub-Divisional Medical Officer and Medical Office in-charge of the hospital has now come under question following disruption of health services.
As per official records, doctors for ENT, Child and medicine departments are available in the hospital but in reality the patients hardly see them in the hospital premises. The OPD is supposed to function from 9 am to 4 pm. But the patients reportedly don’t get this service accordingly. Similar is the scenario in medicine distribution unit.
On Thursday, when our correspondent visited the hospital, he found that the OPDs for Eye, Child and Gynecology were closed.
Besides, there has been an allegation against a doctor for running DNC (MTB) business in the hospital. But the SDMO and the MOIC have reportedly been maintaining a conspicuous silence over the issues.
In the meantime, an order has been issued for deputation of the MOIC to another hospital in Dharmanagar. Two other doctors are already in deputation to other hospitals while a lady doctor is on maternity leave.
One of the major issues included lack of cleanliness in the hospital premises. Besides, non-availability of generic medicines in the Jan Aushadhi Counter of the hospital is another source of public sufferings.
