Agartala, Aug 31: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha paid a surprise visit to GBP hospital and took stock of the existing healthcare services on Thursday night.
Accompanied by Health secretary Dr. Debashis Basu, the Chief Minister visited various wards of the hospital including Medicine and Dialysis units. He also inspected the boys’ hostel of Agartala Government Medical College.
During the inspection, Dr. Saha interacted with the doctors and patients in the hospital. He also had interactions with some of the students staying in the hostel and inquired if they are facing any issues.
Later speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, the infrastructure in the hospital is up to the mark and the doctors are doing their best to ensure quality healthcare to the people; only maintenance is required.
According to the Chief Minister, he observed some minor issues like problem of ventilation in the Medicine ward and passed necessary instructions to the hospital authority.
Replying to a media query regarding shortage of nurse in the hospital, the Chief Minister said, 175 nurses would be recruited soon after the Model Code of Conduct for bye-election gets over.
He also said, the space for patients (bed) has been increased and several new departments have been introduced in the GBP hospital ensuring better healthcare to the people.
Dr. Saha also mentioned, there is excessive load of patients on the GBP hospital and keeping this mind, the present state government has been working to strengthen the District Hospitals.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also assured financial assistance for some patients as their families sought help for treatment during the hospital visit.
