The Assembly Speaker said these things while talking to journalists 3 days (September 21) after the Supreme Court’s comment in the matter.

On September 18, the Supreme Court had heard the disqualification of 16 MLAs of Shiv Sena Shinde faction. The court told the Assembly Speaker that you cannot postpone the decision on this matter for long. You have to set a time limit for it. A bench of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra heard both the cases.

On May 11, the Supreme Court had given its verdict on the disqualification of 16 rebel MLAs of Eknath Shinde faction. In this, the court had left the decision on the membership of rebel MLAs to the Speaker. At the same time, Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sunil Prabhu had filed a petition in the Supreme Court and appealed to reconsider the matter. He had argued in the petition – The Speaker of the Assembly is deliberately postponing the matter.

Last year Eknath Shinde had rebelled
Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde had rebelled against the party in June 2022. After this, Shinde formed the government in the state along with BJP and himself became the Chief Minister. After this Shinde staked his claim on Shiv Sena.

On 16 February 2023, the Election Commission accepted the Eknath Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena. Also, Shinde faction was given permission to use the name and symbol (bow and arrow) of Shiv Sena. The Uddhav faction had challenged the Election Commission’s decision in the Supreme Court.

In Maharashtra, the petitions filed by Shiv Sena Shinde faction and Uddhav faction to disqualify each other’s MLAs were heard on September 14. This hearing was conducted by Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar in the Central Hall of the Assembly.

According to news agency PTI, the hearing of the case took place on September 14 from 10:30 am to 2 pm. After this, Shinde faction’s lawyer Anil Sakhre told the media – We have not received documents from the Uddhav faction.

In response, Thackeray faction MLA Ravindra Vaikar said that this is part of the Shinde faction’s strategy. It is the job of the Assembly Speaker to provide documents related to the case to both the groups. We want that 34 petitions have been filed in this case, all of them should be combined and heard together.
