On April 23, the police arrested Amritpal Singh. Since then he is lodged in Dibrugarh jail.

Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh has started an indefinite hunger strike in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail. Along with Amritpal, his 9 associates are also included. Amritpal’s wife Kirandeep Kaur is also on hunger strike near the jail in support of her husband.

This hunger strike is being done in protest against the restriction imposed in allowing them to meet their chosen lawyer. Amritpal was arrested from Punjab under the National Security Act (NSA). After which he was sent to Assam jail. Kirandeep Kaur told that Amritpal and his colleagues are not being allowed to meet their lawyer Rajdev Singh, even though they have every right to do so. There has been no solution to this matter since 5 days.

Gave a warning by writing a letter from jail
Amritpal had written a one-page letter on September 28 regarding the DC of Amritsar. In this letter written to the Superintendent of Dibrugarh Jail, Amritpal said that Amritsar DC is misusing his powers. His lawyer Rajdev Singh is not giving permission to Khalsa to meet him.
Whereas all the conditions are being fulfilled by his lawyer. Their constitutional rights are being violated.

Amritsar DC said – had already met another lawyer
Regarding this, Amritsar DC Amit Talwar said that the prisoners have full permission to meet the lawyer of their choice. Amritpal has already met advocate Navkiran Singh. Now he is seeking permission to meet Rajdev Singh Khalsa. Whereas permission has already been given to Navkiran Singh. The entire matter has been sent to the Home Secretary regarding meeting the new lawyer. Guidance and clarification have been sought from him in this regard.

This is the second strike by Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh and his associates in Dibrugarh jail. A few months ago, he had gone on a hunger strike in jail because he alleged that his food was being deliberately mixed with tobacco. After that all his demands were accepted.

Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh was arrested by the Punjab Police on April 23 from the Gurudwara of Rode village in Moga district after 36 days of absconding. During these 36 days, Amritpal Singh was sometimes seen in the villages of Nepal border, sometimes Uttarakhand and sometimes Hoshiarpur.

Many people who helped him escape were also caught by the police. On April 23, Punjab Police took him to the Air Force Station in Bathinda and from there he was taken to Assam. Since then, Amritpal Singh is lodged in Dibrugarh jail along with 9 associates.
