Agartala, Sept 01: Prompt response from 102, an emergency ambulance service helpline, came as a blessing for a pregnant woman. She delivered a baby in the ambulance on the way to hospital on Thursday evening.
The pregnant woman- Matabebi Tripura (27) was referred from Dhumacherra primary health centre to Dhalai district hospital at 7 pm. Due to non-availability of other vehicles, her family member dialled 102, the emergency helpline.
There was prompt response from the helpline. An ambulance along with emergency medical technician Urmila Mog arrived at the hospital and picked up the woman for Dhalai district hospital.
On the way to the hospital, as the woman felt labour pain the ambulance was stopped. Finally, with the assistance of the emergency medical staff, the woman safely delivered the baby.
The woman and her family are happy over the service of the emergency helpline.
Dhalai district coordinator of the service Bhavatosh Das said the free ambulance service introduced on March 3, 2020 is largely benefitting the people. According to him, this service registered similar instances of delivery on board earlier also.
