According to media reports, the passenger had consumed intoxicating pills before boarding the flight.

On Thursday, a passenger in an IndiGo flight going from Guwahati in Assam to Agartala in Tripura tried to open the emergency gate of the plane after take off. As soon as the fellow passengers saw the drunken passenger doing this, they removed him from there and made him sit on the seat.

The passengers informed the crew member about the matter, after which he tried to convince the passenger. He misbehaved with them also. After this the crew member complained about the matter at Agartala Airport. The passenger was arrested as soon as the flight landed.

The passenger had consumed intoxicating pills
According to media reports, the passenger has been identified as Biswajit Debnath (41), a resident of Jiraniya in West Tripura district. He had taken intoxicating pills before boarding the flight. Other passengers on board the flight said that his actions did not seem right. Although why he did this is not known.

Airline officials and law enforcement officials are investigating the matter. This is the fourth case of an attempt to open the emergency gate in an Indigo flight in the last 6 months.

20 September: Delhi-Chennai flight
As soon as flight 6E634 took off, a passenger started opening its emergency gate. However, the crew member stopped him from doing so. After the flight landed, it was handed over to the airport authority.

July 8: Hyderabad-Delhi flight
During take off, a passenger had opened the cover of the emergency gate of the plane. The crew member immediately saw it and removed it from there and put the cover on it. Danger of gate opening due to opening of emergency gate cover
According to safety experts, there is a cover on the handle of the emergency gate which protects it from opening due to cabin pressure or any other reason.

According to SS Panesar, former director of flight safety at Indian Airlines, if the cover is removed, the handle remains open. In such a situation, the emergency gate may open during the landing of the plane. This could pose a danger to the plane.
