An incident of stone pelting took place during the Eid-Milad procession in Shivamogga district of Karnataka on Sunday. According to media reports, some miscreants included in the procession threw stones at a group in Shanti Nagar area near Ragigudda. After this, people from both the groups took to the road.

Five people were injured in this incident. To control the situation, the police resorted to lathi charge and stones were also thrown at them. At present, Section 144 has been imposed in the city. Police said that 40 people have been arrested.

Giving this information on Monday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that at present the situation in the district is under control. As a precautionary measure, a police contingent has been deployed to maintain law and order.

The crowd also pelted stones at the police, after which they had to retreat.

Police appeal- Do not pay attention to rumors
Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar told news agency ANI that we have controlled the situation. Local people should not pay attention to the rumors spreading on social media platforms. Also avoid promoting them.
