Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira.
Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has also entered into the arrest of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira from Bhulath of Kapurthala in Punjab. The Governor has summoned a report from the DGP of Punjab regarding the arrest case. He has been asked why and under what circumstances Khaira was arrested. This is important because the relations between the AAP government, CM Bhagwant Mann and the Governor in Punjab have been strained for a long time.
Khaira was arrested from Chandigarh at 5.30 am on Thursday. Jalalabad police had reached his residence in Chandigarh Sector 5 to arrest the MLA. After which senior Congress leaders of Punjab met Governor Banwari Lal Purohit.
In which he called Khaira’s arrest a political stunt. Taking cognizance of the said letter, the Governor has summoned the arrest report in the case from DGP Punjab. In which he asked the reason for Khaira’s arrest.
Congress leaders had come to meet Governor Purohit
When Congress leaders led by Punjab Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Vading and opposition party leader Pratap Singh Bajwa had come to meet the Governor. Where it was said that the Governor was informed about what happened to Sukhpal Singh Khaira. He said that this false case was registered. Politics of revenge is taking place, he was implicated in an 8 year old case.
The investigation was completed without calling and a case was registered. The police came straight to arrest them. We cannot remain silent. We will fight till the end. People know what the truth is. We hope that the Governor will take cognizance of this matter.
Sukhpal Khaira lodged in Nabha jail
Earlier, after his arrest, the police had taken the MLA to Jalalabad. After medical examination he was presented in the court. After hearing both the sides, the court sent MLA Khaira on police remand for two days. After this, police remand was again sought but he was sent first to Faridkot and then to Nabha jail.
