Why is this news important: Team India has made it to the Asia Cup final for the 10th time. India has won the Asia Cup the most number of times with 7 titles. Haryana Police arrested cow protector Monu Manesar associated with Bajrang Dal from Gurugram. He is accused of posting inflammatory posts on social media before the Nuh violence on July 31. Monu is also accused of being involved in the Nasir-Junaid murder case of Rajasthan. Therefore, Haryana Police has handed him over to Rajasthan Police.

4. Petrol pumps closed for two days in Rajasthan from today, operators said – Government should reduce VAT
In Rajasthan, all petrol pumps in the state will remain closed for two days from today. Petroleum Dealers Association has announced to keep petrol pumps closed from 10 am to 6 pm. They say that VAT is high in Rajasthan, while less in Punjab and Gujarat. In such a situation, petrol and diesel are not sold at the pumps located on the borders of these states.

Why is this news important: The association has said that it will go on an indefinite strike from September 15 if VAT is not reduced. Why is this news important: The Congress Screening Committee will meet again today at 9:30 am. Congress is working on two types of plans for declaring candidates. First- Candidates can be announced on 66 seats which have been losing for a long time. Second- Candidates can be declared first on those seats where there are Congress MLAs.

6. Firing in Manipur, then 3 dead; 23 BJP MLAs against separate administration
3 people died in firing in Kangpokpi district of Manipur. Earlier on September 8, 2 people were killed in violence. Here, 23 BJP MLAs passed a resolution in which they demanded action against 10 Kuki MLAs. Kuki MLAs are demanding separate administration in the state.

Why is this news important: The violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities in the state has resulted in 160 deaths so far since May 3. The Center has told the Supreme Court that 6523 FIRs have been registered in Manipur. Of these, 19 cases are related to violence against women and children. 53 CBI officers are investigating the cases of violence in the state. These include 29 women.

According to the report of Association for Democratic Reforms, out of total 763 MPs of the country, 306 have criminal cases registered against them. Of these, serious cases like murder and atrocities against women are registered against 194 MPs. Cases are registered against 41 out of 56 MPs of Bihar. Of these, 28 i.e. 50% MPs have serious cases. At the same time, serious cases are registered against maximum 37 MPs of UP.

8. Sedition law case now in the bench of 5 judges: CJI said – the court is worried about the use of such laws.
The petition challenging the 152 year old sedition law was heard in the Supreme Court. A 3-judge bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud transferred the petitions challenging Section 124A of the IPC to a 5-judge bench. The CJI said that the court is concerned about the use of such laws. Using them is like giving a saw to a carpenter to cut a piece of wood, who then uses it to cut down an entire forest.

Why is this news important: On August 11, 2023, Home Minister Amit Shah introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to change three 163-year-old laws. This also includes abolishing the sedition law. The Law Commission had submitted its report to the government on June 2. The Commission said that Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code needs to be retained in the IPC. There is no valid reason to remove it.
