Naidu is accused of committing a scam of Rs 371 crore in the skill development case, in which he was arrested by the CID on September 9.
The court extended the judicial custody of TDP chief and former CM N Chandrababu Naidu till October 5 in the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation scam case. On September 22, the court had sent Chandrababu Naidu to two days’ police custody, which was ending on Sunday, October 24. During these two days, police and CID officials interrogated Chandrababu in the case.
Naidu is accused of committing a scam of Rs 371 crore in the skill development case. He was arrested by CID on 9 September.
CID may again ask for custody
The case was heard in a local court of Vijayawada on Sunday i.e. 24th September. During this, Advocate YN Vivekananda appeared in the court on behalf of CID. He told news agency PTI that on Monday (September 25), CID can again file a petition in the court seeking Naidu’s custody. The court can also hear the bail plea of former CM, AP Fibernet and Amravati Inner Ring Road case.
After the arrest, Nara Lokesh staged a street protest along with TDP workers in East Godavari.
Court’s instructions were followed during interrogation: CID
Vivekananda told that last time the court had sent Naidu to police custody for two days. The court had ordered the police and CID to interrogate the former CM from 9:30 am to 5 pm. According to the court order, after every hour the former CM was given a break of 5 minutes to consult his lawyer.
Naidu appeared in court through Blue Jeans App
DRG MR Ravikiran of Coastal Andhra Range Jail said that after the questioning and answers were completed, the agency handed him back to the jail authorities. According to the court order, Chandrababu Naidu was produced in the court on Sunday, September 24 at 5 pm through Blue Jeans app.
Ravikiran told that Blue Jeans is an app, which is used to produce prisoners before the courts online. On the other hand, Chandrababu Naidu has already moved the Supreme Court in the Skill Development Corporation scam case.
What is skill development scam?
- In the year 2016, the then CM Chandrababu Naidu had established Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) to provide skill training to unemployed youth.
- The TDP government signed an MoU with group companies Siemens Industry Software India Ltd and Design Tech Systems Pvt Ltd for the Rs 3,300 crore project of APSSDC.
- Under this agreement, Siemens Industry Software India was to set up six excellence centers for skill development at a cost of Rs 3,300 crore.
- The state government was to pay 10 per cent of the total cost of the project, while the remaining amount was to be given to Siemens and Design Tech as assistance.
On September 12, TDP workers protested inside a flight to Visakhapatnam.
Less chances of relief for Naidu
People having legal knowledge of Naidu case believe that this is a complicated case, hence the possibility of the High Court dismissing the case immediately is less. The court will hear the case for a long time before giving its verdict.
More cases against Naidu
A case is registered against Naidu in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road case. CID alleges that Naidu had got the alignment of Amaravati Inner Ring Road changed for which he was given a free bungalow on the banks of Krishna river in Undavalli.
For this reason, even if Naidu is acquitted in the Skill Development Scam case, the police will arrest him in the Amravati Inner Ring Road case. Apart from this, a case of attempt to murder has also been registered against Naidu for attacking the YSRCP leader.
Naidu’s son Lokesh took command of the party
After Naidu’s arrest, his son and TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh has taken over the leadership of the party. Lokesh was carrying out a marathon padayatra in the state, but he stopped it after Naidu’s arrest.
