Agartala, Sept 03: The vocal campaign for bye-elections to Boxonagar and Dhanpur assembly constituencies in Tripura came to an end on Sunday with all the major political parties campaigning hard to impress the voters.
While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party remained a front runner in the campaign, the CPM’s way of campaign was sort of low key and limited to house meetings and whatsapp messages. This time, much effort from Congress was not visible; they are supporting the CPM while Tipra Motha’s foot soldiers also failed to steal the limelight.
The Election Commission has already planned a strong security cover to prevent fake voters and any kind of violence on the poll day. All other preparations for conducting the bye-election in a free, fair and peaceful manner have already been put in place.
No major untoward incident was reported in the run up to the election so far and the people of both the constituencies are visibly in no mood to encourage any sort of poll violence. Tripura has already set an instance of peaceful election before the country in the 2023 assembly polls. Keeping this in mind, Tripura Chief Minister during his campaign programmes appealed to the people of Dhanpur and Boxanagar not to indulge in any violence or terror practice.
Meanwhile, the major political parties, mostly BJP and CPI-M, didn’t miss any opportunity to impress the voters on the last day of the campaign. Along with the state leaders, the local CPM and BJP workers were seen campaigning hard in both the assembly seats- Boxanagar and Dhanpur.
The voting in the two constituencies will take place on September 5 and the results will be declared on September 8 next amid tight security.
Dhanpur will mainly witness the contest between BJP’s Bindu Debnath and CPM’s Kaushik Chanda while in Boxonagar, the fight will be between BJP’s Tafajjal Hussain and CPM’s Mizan Hussain.
