CJI Chandrachud said these things in a program organized at Mahatma Gandhi Mission University, Nagpur.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said on Sunday that we can fool everyone, but not ourselves. Our legal profession will flourish or perish depending on whether we maintain our integrity.

Honesty is the main pillar of the legal profession. It is not erased by a storm, it is erased by small concessions and compromises that advocates and judges sometimes give to their clients.

Chandrachud said these things in a program organized by the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court and the Advocates Association of the Bombay High Court at Mahatma Gandhi Mission University, Nagpur.

CJI said- We all sleep with our conscience. He keeps asking questions every night. We will either survive with integrity or self-destruct.

Lawyers get respect when they respect judges
CJI Chandrachud said that lawyers get respect when they respect judges and judges get respect when they respect lawyers. This happens when both feel that both are parts of the same wheel of justice.

Talking about women in the judiciary, she said that gender is not a woman’s issue alone and it is equally a man’s issue. I believe that one of the urgent challenges facing the Indian legal profession is to create an equal opportunity profession. This is because the structure of the legal profession today will define it 30 or 40 years from now.
